Students explore the impact of humans on the Nerang river catchment by starting the excursion at its source - the NSW / Queensland border and then following the river downstream to the mouth at the Seaway, stopping along the way to analyse issues such as water quality, pollution, weeds, the history of settlement and development. A range of qualitative and quantitative data is collected including chemical and biological testing and riparian vegetation analysis.
Mountain to Mouth can be adapted to a one day program by selecting to study either of the days, however due to equipment and access limitations, testing usually only occurs day 1, in the upper reaches of the catchment.
