PublishingPageContent

Students participate in a full day study of the Upper Nerang River catchment.  Through exploring the river from its origin at the top of Numinbah Valley through to Hinze Dam, students gain an understanding of the water cycle, how a catchment works, and recognise the importance of water as a vital resource. Students carry out biological and chemical tests at multiple sites along the river to determine the health of the waterway. Land uses that have an impact upon the river are investigated and management strategies that can help maintain good water quality are discussed.  Students visit Hinze Dam and learn how water is treated and then supplied to their houses.
