At Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre, students learn through direct experiences in natural and cultural environments that cannot be replicated in a classroom.

Our day programs combine curriculum-aligned learning, hands-on experiences and authentic fieldwork to help students develop deeper understandings of themselves, their communities and the world around them.

Whether exploring ecosystems, engaging with First Nations perspectives, investigating l​andscapes or developing leadership skills, every program is designed to connect learning with place.

Program Overview

Biodiversity Explorers helps students investigate the variety of life found within local ecosystems. Through hands-on exploration, students examine habitats, animal adaptations, invertebrates and biodiversity while developing an understanding of how living things depend on one another and the environment to survive.

Program Overview

Day on Country provides students with an opportunity to experience First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing through hands-on engagement with Country. Through cultural practices, storytelling, seasonal knowledge, traditional technologies and collaborative experiences, students develop a deeper appreciation of the enduring connections between people, culture and place.

Blindfold Trail: Develop confidence, resilience and awareness while working together to navigate challenges in a natural environment.

Canoeing: Build teamwork, decision-making and leadership through shared experiences on the water.

Pole Climb: Climb a 10m high pole. Challenge comfort zones, develop self-belief and practise supporting others through individual and group challenges.

Program Overview

Geology Field Studies takes students into the landscapes of Springbrook National Park to investigate the geological processes that have shaped the region over millions of years. Through field observations and guided investigations, students explore volcanic landforms, igneous rocks, weathering, erosion and the connections between geology, vegetation and ecosystems.

Program Overview

Holding Tight is NVEEC's flagship conservation program. Students move beyond learning about environmental issues and contribute directly to the restoration and protection of local ecosystems through authentic conservation projects. Working alongside environmental educators and community partners, students develop an understanding of how individuals and communities can make a positive difference through action. Based in the Nerang River catchment, the program combines environmental science, sustainability and stewardship with meaningful real-world contribution.

Our Learning Journey

Students progress from building connections with people, place and environment to becoming active contributors and environmental stewards. Through meaningful experiences and real-world learning, students develop the confidence and capability to create positive change in their communities and inspire others to do the same.

Many schools return to NVEEC throughout a student's schooling journey, with each visit building upon previous experiences and deepening their connection to place.​​
